Overview

The Department of Computer Network Engineering is one of the departments of the College of Engineering at the Iraqi University. The department admitted its first students in the academic year 2012-2013, relying on the semester system in its curricula, which cover software and electronics specializations in the field of computer communications and their applications to keep pace with the rapid developments occurring in information and communication technologies. These technologies have become a prominent feature in the economies of many developed countries and some developing countries. Computer networks are considered a modern and advanced science that has contributed significantly and directly to technological development in all life applications, with the most widely used application today being the International Information Network (the Internet). The department accepts the best students to become a foundation for high-level scientific staff with creativity and innovation. Lectures are delivered by a group of competent professors with academic qualifications, in a manner suitable for the rapid development experienced by the country and the world in this field. The duration of study in the department is four years after preparatory school / scientific branch. Upon completing the undergraduate studies, the graduate is awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Network Engineering. The department has recently witnessed notable developments, including updating the curricula and implementing them, as well as upgrading the department’s laboratory equipment. Given the department's good reputation and the rapid advancement in its field of specialisation, the number of students enrolling in both morning and evening programs is steadily increasing.

Vision:

The department aims to be a leader among all computer network engineering and information technology departments in Iraqi universities by preparing qualified engineers capable of opening new scientific horizons, supporting scientific research, and providing practical technical consultations in the labour market to serve the community.

Message

Preparing competent engineers and entrepreneurs capable of meeting the needs of the labour market, government institutions, and all sectors of science and technology (public, private, and mixed) in the field of computer network engineering, by updating curricula and encouraging students to be creative and innovative and striving to achieve that. To teach students practical knowledge that leads to fundamental changes in the field of specialisation, in line with the current, evolving, and renewed labour market requirements, and to provide consulting, design, and implementation in the field of computer network engineering and information technology.

Objectives

1. Graduating engineering cadres with a high level of scientific knowledge, possessing understanding and expertise that enable them to build, analyse, and develop computer network systems. Moreover, continue to follow up with these cadres after graduation through social media channels and other channels to understand the challenges they face and the extent of changes needed in curricula to make opportunities more accessible and capabilities to meet challenges higher.
Organising seminars and holding scientific conferences and workshops with other colleges inside and outside the country, as well as with government institutions and the private sector, to solve problems and develop the work of these institutions.

Continuously updating curricula to keep pace with scientific developments in a way that meets labour market needs, by providing a suitable environment for theoretical and practical teaching, using the latest technologies, tools, and devices, and adhering to international quality standards and academic accreditation.
Providing academic consultations in the fields of computer engineering in general, and computer network engineering and its applications in particular, in accordance with market needs and requirements.
Raising the scientific and technological level through the adoption of the correct approach in scientific research and building a solid research base by relying on databases characterised by integrity and accuracy.

Starting postgraduate studies programs in the department to develop, support, and motivate its members, and to provide centres and institutions with higher degrees and academic titles. Integration with other departments of computer and electrical engineering in the college to fill the skills gap needed to prepare a fully equipped team for accomplishing multidisciplinary projects.

1. Entering the network engineering profession as practising engineers and consultants in leading companies and institutions in various fields related to network engineering. 2. Continuing education and research at prominent research universities in network engineering and related fields. 3. Advancing in their chosen fields to supervisory and managerial roles. 4. Engaging in continuous learning through professional development. 5. Participating and contributing to professional associations and community service.
